To the President and Staff

The suggestion box method, you are currently using as a clearing house for ideas, on technological solutions to the oil spill, works great for building the new school library or planning the next city park. That being said and with all due respect, which is not something I have offered to any other president, you are not a community organizer anymore; you are the leader of the free world. It is time to step up sir. This requires a Manhattan Project. I do not believe it would require an act of Congress for you to institute an emergency selective service call up of all registrants with appropriate educational backgrounds to serve in Crisis Response Study Groups. Those selected to serve would get tuition reimbursement and an E4 equivalent pay grade for the duration. If, an act of Congress is required I doubt you would find much in the way of push back.

To pay for this the Federal Government must freeze and seize BP's assets. This will both save the company from bankruptcy and allow the Coast Guard and the Energy department to manage and direct all the available corporate assets at the crisis in the Gulf. The suggestion to do this is most unpallettable not because of any respect for corporate soveriegnty, because I have none, but because I have to invoke a law I have longed to see repealed, metricated upon, and set fire to; the USA Patriot Act. If we see the lies and inaccuracies in their initial filing for a drilling permit as a willful act of Fraud then this is a criminal conspiracy whose intent was to make profit but whose result was to kill 11 people, create an ecological disaster, and insight economic terror in American families. No sleeper cell could have hurt us this badly. No bomb could have been dirtier. As suspects in an act of Terrorism we can seize any and all of their funds and use their ongoing resources to ease the suffering of the victims. At first the Gulf; but when all is told ,when food prices sky rocket because of the lost agricultural and fishing capacities, BP's profits may go to ease the suffering of all Americans and the world as in time I am sure all will feel it's touch.
